How do I get my insurance to talk to me about an under insured motorist claim?

I was in a car accident 18moths ago and sustained an injury to my hand. My claim went beyond the responsible party's maximum insurance and into my under insured motorist policy. I have settled with the other insurance but am now having a difficult time getting my insurance company to discus settlement. How can I get my insurance company to respond to my inquires without resorting to getting a lawyer?
