Why would an auto insurance company request money back from the hospital?

In October I was in an auto accident that was not my fault, the responsible party didn't have insurance but I did including personal injury. My daughter had minor neck injuries and I took her to the hospital. The charges were approved and paid. This week a bill collector called and said the insurance company requested the money back and would tell me nothing more, they told me to call my insurance company (who I cant reach right now) why would this happen?
